Introducing Dr. Geoff Nunn

Dr. Geoff Nunn

As a retired neuro-anaesthetist I claim no training in, or qualification in archaeology. My first experience was in the early 1960s when my father and I did a “Plane table” survey of a Welsh hill fort. I thereafter relapsed into a career in Medicine.

had the good fortune to move into my present home in 2015, finding myself a short walk from the best preserved Neolithic henge in the country. The folks from whom I bought the house left me the 25” OS maps covering the Thornborough Henges and a clear direction to purchase “Cult, Religion and Pilgrimage”.

Since then I have become fascinated by these monuments, especially their role in Neolithic society and the technological abilities of their builders. I am currently a Volunteer Tour Guide for English Heritage at these wonderful structures. That role has itself presented opportunities to get involved with proper archaeologists doing real stuff.

More recently I have taken on the role of Maintenance Volunteer at the Northern Thornborough Henge, early indications suggest this will keep me busy! My other interests have included skiing, flying and pre-war three-wheelers. Now I relax by climbing.
