I am delighted to announce that Ben Potts, whom many of you know through participating in our fieldwork, has joined TAG’s Management Committee. Ben is already making an extremely positive contribution, and we are lucky to have him as part of the team.
Ben is a change and project manager, a member of the Chartered Management Institute, with a postgraduate-level qualification in strategic leadership and 25 years’ experience in asset and data management. During that time, he has mainly worked in local government in Yorkshire, leading programmes that introduced new ways of working and modernised how councils use and share information.
He has a degree in History and Philosophy from the University of Wales, and has always been drawn to exploring how people in the past understood and shaped their world. More recently, Ben’s focus has turned to GIS mapping and how digital information can open up archaeology to wider audiences. He is especially interested in ancient monuments and routeways, and the mysteries of prehistoric cosmography and carved rock art.
Ben believes archaeology should be something everyone can take part in and enjoy. He has a strong volunteer ethic and is keen to support projects that bring communities together, making heritage more engaging and accessible for all.
He loves both the arts and sciences equally, and finds inspiration in landscapes such as the mountains of Crete, Scotland and Wales. He jokes that supporting Birmingham City FC has taught him resilience – and a sense of humour.
