Festival of Archaeology at Thornborough

I’m very pleased to say that TAG’s next event will be on Saturday 19th July. We are offering a ‘Talk and tour’ for those who want to find out more about Thornborough’s remarkable Neolithic and Bronze Age landscape. Join us for either the morning (10am-2pm) or afternoon (1pm-5pm) at West Tanfield Memorial Hall to listen to a talk by myself, when I offer an overview of Thornborough’s development and use between 4000-1000 BC. It will be followed by a Q&A and an opportunity to handle prehistoric finds from here and elsewhere. You can then drive the short distance to the henge monuments to enjoy a guided walk by TAG’s own experts.

We offered a similar event last year that many of you attended. And it seemed worthwhile offering it again, so we are. There is, however, one difference to last year. This time we are charging an entry fee of £5 per person. And its important I explain why it will not be free. As I’m sure you can imagine, TAG has running costs like insurance, professional memberships, and digital fees to pay. In addition, we offer fieldwork opportunities for free to volunteers, yet this costs us too. As a consequence, we need to use occasions like that on the 19th July to raise funds, all of which will go back into the organisation and help us deliver on our core mission. Talking of which, we will soon be announcing a return to Windmill House to extend one of the test-pits into a small area excavation, so please watch out for an announcement.

If you are interested in attending on the 19th July you can book tickets by using the forms below.
