We are delighted to announce that Nicola Halliday has joined TAG as an Advisor. Nicki kindly offered to help with our administration, and her background and experience will assist us greatly as we expand our commitments, opportunities, and initiatives.
Prior to Nicki’s retirement in July 2025 she was Head of Compliance Services UK and Ireland for Hays Recruitment. Her career with Hays had spanned 31 years, working mainly in compliance and audit roles.
Despite having no formal background or experience in archaeology, Nicki had always had a keen interest so, shortly after moving to Green Hammerton in 2022, she was both excited and intrigued to see a post on Facebook from Tony Hunt showing some interesting lidar images which strongly indicated that part of the Dere Street Roman road might, in fact, run through a field close to where she was now living in the village. At his suggestion, a group of locals got together to form the Green Hammerton Archaeology Society to investigate, and the results of their fieldwork has now been published.
This experience spurred Nicki on to seek out other community archaeology projects and the Thornborough Archaeology Group presented what she describes as “a fantastic opportunity, still within my local area, to learn and experience more”.
