What important archaeological site lies only 3.7 miles from the Thornborough monument complex and remains largely uninvestigated? Its the Sinderby henge, of course! Of all the region’s magnificent henges, it is the one about which we know the least, with it being discovered less than a decade ago. Like Nunwick it remains under cultivation, but its ditch and bank are still visible as earthworks.

So, why do I mention Sinderby today? It’s because I have some good news. I’m delighted to announce that TAG has permission from the landowners and their farm manager, who has been incredibly supportive, to undertake research here in 2026. It’s a Scheduled Monument, so very importantly, we will also have to get a license from Historic England. If successful, we hope to complete fieldwalking and a geophysical survey in the early spring. We are going to have to work very quickly to make this happen, as the timetable will be tight. Over the next month we will write a project design and complete a desktop study of a 4km by 4km study area. These can then be submitted to Historic England for consideration.
