We had a splendid day fieldwalking at Windmill House on Sunday. The team worked exceptionally hard, and as a result, we not only completed widespaced walking across the entire field, but also managed to get some total collection done across an area 60m by 30m. The former produced around 140 finds, with the latter adding another 40 or so. The vast majority of these finds are worked flint. These lithics are largely earlier in date, so later Mesolithic through to middle Neolithic, but there are also a few later pieces. Their characteristics suggests that many are the result of on-site knapping, with tools few and far between. We would like to thank all the volunteers who attended. You were great! The collected material will help us greatly in understanding activity and occupation at Windmill House.
